Batang Krayola Christmas Parties 2010 (Tenatative)

This year we want to share and extend the Love of Jesus Christ to the Kids through our Batang Krayola Christmas Parties with our 11 partner churches, and are planning to target 100 kids per churches, we would appreciate any help you can extend to this party.
Note that this is only a tentative plan. But we are looking forward to see the fulfillment of this event knowing that this is a huge opportunity to bless churches thru this kid’s parties.
I had posted here the Name of the Churches so that we could pray for the events and for the funds.

This is how the BK Daycare Started.

Before, I and my co-worker Tin-tin Ramos, are just using cut-out papers to teach kids the English Alphabet.

-Now-

God provided the teaching materials that we need and the teachers who has a passion to teach and serve the kids! :)

Batang Krayola Daycare Updates

Personal Note from the Ministry Leader

I’m so blessed to see how God performs His miracles through the Daycare Center.  It’s a ministry of Batang Krayola under Youth Mobilization Team that aims to teach street kids how to read and write. These street kids come from one of the urban poor communities in Makati City that is just a stone throw away from the YM office.  Now that the ministry is in its second year, I can’t help it but look back last year when we started it.  With just a passion in our hearts to help the street kids, I and another co-worker of YM started this ministry.  I kept in my heart what Kuya Joshua would challenge me whenever we hold our mentoring.  He would say, “If you believe that God will give you something, you will prepare for it.”  So a month before the actual start of the new school year, we started preparing the things we need for the Daycare.

Preparation

Challenging People – Last May 10, I started talking to people who are willing to be part of this ministry.  I shared to them what will be the direction of the ministry for this year, including the new ideas that will enable us to really make a difference and become effective ministers not just to the kids but also to the families. I challenged them to value the opportunity to minister to the children on a daily basis and not to wait for special events to happen before really getting involved into the lives of the kids and their parents.  I told them that the key to our ministry is in getting to know the children and everyday, it is our opportunity to do so. As a result, two volunteer teachers and three volunteer workers responded to the challenge.

Parents’ Orientation – June 08, 2010 is our day of orientation for the parents and 16 pupils came to register. It was a short and simple orientation program focusing on the only request we have for the mothers.  That is for them to commit their time in bringing their kids to the Daycare Center.  We told them that we are willing to invest in the lives of their kids but we can’t do it alone - we need their help to accomplish our goal.  If we are to see that their children become productive members and great leaders of their home, community, and society, we will truly need their help. In response to that, the mothers commit themselves to bringing their kids everyday.

Project Blackboard - Last June 11, we made a blackboard that can be used for teaching. Truly without the help of many people who committed their time and gave their effort, we will not be able to accomplish anything.

Opening Celebration – Finally, the opening of classes came.  June 15, 2010 seeing the excitement of the kids as they walked at the entrance door of the Church with their parents wearing smile in their faces made the Daycare Opening truly a celebration. During the program, the kids were introduced with their teachers and assistant teachers beside them. Pastor Joshua did a short but powerful message. The parents were so thankful that there are people who are willingly helping the needs of their kids. Truly, our day worth the hard work knowing that, our work for the Lord is not in vain.

Plans

We are looking for more training for the teachers, which right now, some of us are studying in the seminary to improve our teaching skills.
We are planning to make a uniform for the teachers and students.
We are planning to make workbooks per each student by filing all their monthly activities and give it to their parents.
We are planning to add more workers who will work with us for visitation and follow ups.
We are planning to have a Field Trip this year.

"We exist to help, train, and equip street children so that they will become productive members and great leaders of their home, society, and the world."

THIS IS HOW WE STARTED:

When Batang Krayola started in 2004, the team only had copies of coloring books and a box of used crayons. They used this to teach children in a local urban poor community in Manila. Since then, God has expanded the ministry throughout the Philippines. Our desire is for the children to know that there is a God who loves and cares for them. We know that when the children grasp this love they will live a life of purpose and fulfillment. “Jesus said I have come so that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10) BK does this by helping churches and youth reach out their communities through these events.

Toph's Testimony

PERSONAL INFO:
My name is Kristofer T. Purificacion. I am currently serving with the Youth Mobilization Team (a ministry of International Teams Philippines) as the team’s lay-out artist. I also became the Team Leader in their kid’s ministry called Batang Krayola.

BACKROUND:
I was born on December 23, 1986 but sad to say, that I came from a broken family . To make it worst when I was just 1 year old. I contracted Bronco Pneumonia, a complication from the German measles I previously had. At that time, the doctor told my mother that I only had a 50/50 chance of survival. It was a miracle that I lived. Indeed it was only because of God's grace that I survived.

When I was in Elementary and High School, I excelled so much in the Arts. I often represented my School in different art competitions which also gave me the opportunity to go to many places in the Philippines. In return, our school awarded me a Hall of Fame Award in Art during our high school graduation.

Although I only wanted to have a simple life, I dreamt of changing the kind of life I grew up in. But soon after I started College, many challenges came my way. Working and studying at the same time with a weak body made it so hard for me to achieve my goals. I considered it my lucky day when I was able to be on time for my first subject and yet, I still ended up failing that subject. Then a time came that I could not continue my studies because of financial constraints. To keep myself busy, I joined a musical band. I did this so that I could forget my failures. Later on, I realized that God used those trials to make me strong.

SALVATION:
In March 2006, I met my Godfather whom I last saw when I was just a child. He was managing a concert equipment business in Laguna. At that time we needed an amplifier and through God's perfect timing we were able to meet after almost twenty years (20). Then the first thing he did is to invite me to attend a church worship service. That was the time when I felt God knocking on the door of my life. May 18, 2006 when I received Jesus as my Lord and my Savior at a Youth Camp held at the Rizal Recreation Center.

CALLING:
One Sunday, the worship leader offered me a chance to serve God through the worship team. I immediately grabbed that opportunity. In January 05, 2007 my pastor invited me to join the Youth Mobilization team, a ministry under International Teams Philippines. I saw it as an opportunity for me to serve God not only within the church, but through missions, I will also be able to serve other churches and needy people in many areas in the Philippines. During that time, I was given the opportunity to work overseas. It was a big chance for me to earn money I needed to finish my studies.

It was the hardest decision I had to make in my life. I didn’t know what to do, but God reminded me of this verse, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33)." By faith, I left my house in Cavite, to live in the city and serve God. I declined the offer to go overseas, and instead opted to serve God. Because of that God opened my eyes to see many struggling people around me. They are headed for destruction unless someone tells them that God’s salvation is available for all of them. I realized that God placed me in the midst of a hurting world so I can share His love with those who desperately need it.
